  • Okay on the site settings in the first request. That second request should be the charm!

I have a Chromebook sitting here waiting on that change so I can watch it start working.

LewisAlso, the domain needs to point at the webroot directory on the server to match whatever the main domain is set to. You might need help from your webhost for that as that needs to be done via the control panel.

GarrettHi Lewis! Thanks for reaching out to DreamHost Live Chat support. My name is Garrett and I will be happy to assist. Please give me a moment to pull up your account.
    Lewisk

GarrettOK, is this regarding the lewispalmeter.com site?
    Lewisy

GarrettOK, what web directory do you need lewispalmeter.com set to?
Lewisim not sure exactly – can i explain ? i tried to change it myself under maanage domains but it did not change

i have built a wordpress multisite with a single wordpress install on ssgalleries.com which i then created a subsite ssgalleriesllc .com/lewispalmeter so now i am trying to map the real lewispalmeter.com to the ssgalleriesllc,com/lewispalmeter .. does that make any sense ?

GarrettIt does, altho we do not offer support for WordPress multi-site setups. You can run a multi site on our server, but we cannot assist you with troubleshooting that.

Although, it sounds to me like you just need to set the lewispalmeter.com web directory setting to – ssgalleriesllc.com/lewispalmeter

The one thing to keep in mind when doing that is that the two domains must be ru under the same FTP user in order to share a web directory. That will work for lewispalmeter.com and ssgalleries.com as they are both ru under the stcvbnm user. but if you need to set this up for any other domains, you will need to make sure they are run under the same user.

Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Lewisok i am the only user

    all sites are mine

GarrettRight, but hey are all setup under different FTP usernames. That is the user I am referring to .
Lewisso how can i make them all the same user ?

    user name

GarrettThis guide shows how to do that –
    https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020605511-Changing-the-user-assigned-to-a-domain
Lewisso all 6 of my sites can be on same username if i follow guide ?

    GarrettYes, they can
Lewisok now may i ask when i tried to change the web directory & save settings why didnt it change ?

GarrettDid you wait for 20 minutes after making the change for it to complete?
Lewisits been 20 min but havent seen a chane – maybe it didnt like whaat i typed

GarrettPerhaps. Give that another try now.
    Lewisok

so the 2 sites i want to deal with now have the same user but i will need to change the rest – i am trying alteredmisfitz now

i put in for a user name chaange & new web directory at
same time lets see what happens ssgalleriesllc.com/lewispalmeter

GarrettOK, I will push those changes thru. One moment
Lewisseems like to me when i originally set all these sites up it told me only 2 sites per user

GarrettThat is incorrect. You can run all sites under the same user if you like…
    Lewisit changed

now let me see if i see that on my wordpress

    GarrettSure
Lewiswhen i go to dashboard of ssgalleries.com/alteredmisfitz i get thi

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    GarrettChecking

OK, so this is where we are not able to dig into the issues any further, as this is a multi site setup issue. I am seeing no errors popping in the logs for ssgalleriesllc.com. You will need to reach out to a WordPress Multi-site developer to have them take a look at the setup issues.

Your web directory settings are working tho. I can confirm that.
Lewisok ty for all you have done for me

this thing has been kicking my butt for 3 wks now

but i will figuure it out with help from all concerned

    ty again

GarrettOK, I did find one error that you can show them. I am seeing the alteredmisfitz.com domain showing this error –

[Tue Mar 17 12:41:07.634110 2020] [core:error] [pid 20051] [client 199.82.243.91:27131] AH00124: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary. Use ‘LogLevel debug’ to get a backtrace., referer: https://www.ssgalleriesllc.com/

So that may help with the Multi site setup troubleshooting.

ok looks like from within ssgalliesllc.com i can visit lewispalmeter.com also am able to get to dashboard. but with lewispalmeter.com being empty do i need to publish to get the sample page to show up ? alteredmisfitz should be the same soon as i just redid the root directory

    Looking really good now…

Lewispalmeter.com works for the site itself and the admin (as far as the login ‘modal’ goes) and alteredmisfitz.com works too from here…

alteredmisfitz seems to know about admin also and I left a comment on both sites to make sure that works. If those are showing up or awaiting moderation then you are doing well.

Rinse and repeat as needed for the other two (three domains).

If you have different questions outside of this topic then start a new topic as this one is dragging along pretty much now. If you have questions related to this thread then post here so we keep things together.

If you get all this working on your own then mark this topic as resolved when you’re sure it’s done.

If you need my help more on a further new topic then make sure you add multisite to the tag or somewhere within so it will ‘holler for me’.

    You’re doing very well!

Thank you – I owe you… I have been working on mapping for 3 weeks. Now the other 3 sites I may start them over instead of trying to transfer all that stuff. I have made templetes in Elementor… I will finish up & test & then will close as resolved when finished…

That’s cool but if you want to…

Try moving the content for the first one. You just can’t FTP stuff much but there’s a tool called export and another called import… they work very well to migrate content from single sites to a multisite. Easier than starting over.

But that’s a subject for a different topic if you wish.
