• Hello,

My original blog was hosted on wordpress.com. I moved it to self hosted on godaddy a year ago. The domain name expired yesterday. I hadn’t set it to automatically renew (my fault, of course.)

When I log into wordpress.com I am unable to renew my domain because the original blog was deleted. I can get to the console, but there is no option to renew because the blog was deleted.

WordPress.com referred me to www.remarpro.com for support. I’m hoping someone here has had the same experience and can help me. I’ve searched through these forums, but can’t find anything.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Kristi

  • Talk with who you registered the Domain with – I think but not sure there is some sort of “grace period” before the name can be resold – also talk with your host and see if they still have your site on a server and just waiting for more money from you.

I got my Domain after it expired and then dropped out of some grace period, I think the original owner got the Domain but never used it or renewed it – seems I remember seeing some grace period notice –

I doubt you are the first with this problem – the register and host should be used to dealing with this.

You would think so, but I’ve contacted the registrar Automattic. They are apparently who WordPress.com uses, and while I can login into the site, I don’t have the option to renew. They say because it was setup through a third party? They send me to wordpress.com 24/7 support which is just an email. No response from them, except and FAQ that sends me to www.remarpro.com.

Very frustrating, but I appreciate your help. I’ve worked so hard on this that it would really set me back if I had to register a new domain. ??

    Thank you!

    Kristi

Unless someone has squatted on your old name seems to me you should be able to get it back.

Try looking up your domain here: https://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp

It might help a bit – I am on a small ISP Host so problems like this are a quick email or phone call away from Dan the honcho.

Good luck – all should not be lost

Called my Host and talked to the Senior guy (Owner & founder):

Seems all registers have a 30 to 90 day grace period where they hold the name and don’t release it – after abut a week or so there is usually some penalty to get it renewed –

The catch is that the renewal has to be done with the original registrar. So you will probably need to work through the original chain of command you used to register the first time.

If necessary get a new site at WordPress.com to let you post and ask for help on the Forum. Probably someone there that has had the same problem and registrar.

Also try jut going to your Domain and seeing if there is some sort of “if this is your domain call us” message – when I was waiting for the Domain I now had there was that type of message.

I just waited until it fell off the grace period and called my host to have the domain registered in my name.

Not lost until someone else has a site on your old Domain.

This is the registrar that my Host goes through, they have a big FAQ that should help, including a how to get an expired Domain back, caution each registrar probably has a few different steps but all should be about the same.
