Hello all… Hoping someone can help me out.

I have two websites, each with alike content except, literally one word. I copied the files via ftp from one site to the other. When I visit the sites the correct files show up for both, but when I ask to visit my wp-login page I am redirected to the first site. Try it yourselves…

New site that I want to make changes to is machine-monitor.com

Website that I copied the files from is cncmachinemonitoring.com

You will notice when going visiting machine-monitor.com/wp-admin the login domain changes to cncmachinemonitoring.com/wp-admin

    Please help!! Thanks in advance!

  • Hi! To move a site to a new domain name, in addition to copying the files, more steps are needed– Here’s a guide on the topic:

Thank you Mjjojo for the help. I have been able to move the files to machine-monitor.com and login, but now I’m unable to login to my cncmachinemonitoring.com wp site. I do not have a wp-options file to make changes to like the link you supplied stated. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you again!

The same page has instructions for keeping the old site running too — In the section “Keeping it Running”, which also has a further sub-section “Part B – Restoring Your Old Site”.

When I do something like this, I try to be methodical, write out a plan for the entire operation start-to-end (like a checklist) before starting the operation, and then follow the plan. I make a backup before starting the operation, so that if something goes wrong then I restore from the backup.

    You can do it!
