domain-based multisite network

  • somebody, please help.

    i want to configure WP domain-based multisite network on my WP install; i have read the documentation ‘create a network’, but i need final light on the issue. at present, i have buddypress installed on my site and its working fine. but i want to give my users the ability to create blogs, hence i need to enable WP multi-site right? i guess i have to deactivate buddypress first, right? now this is where im confused: there is a line in the documentation that says if i want domain-based network , wordpress url must not contain ‘path’. however, my worpress url contains path; that is i have WP installed in its subdirectory ‘/blog’. my site address and WP address are the same, they look like this: ‘mydomain/blog’.

    in other for me to have doamin-based network, does that mean i have to install WP in the root of my site???

  • There are people who manage to get a network working with a subfolder installation, but I advice to move your installation to the root. The url will look better too!

    I have no experience with multisite and Buddypress, but since the latter is also Automatic, I suppose it should be possible.

    ‘domain based’ is ‘subdomain’ so you’d have blogname.domain.com

    You can, however, use subfolders for domain.com/blogname (or in your case you’d have domain.com/blog/blogname)

    They all work fine with BuddyPress.

    i moved WP to my root directory, effectively changing WP address from “mydomain/blog” to “mydomain”. and i also enabled WP Multisite in WP-Config file which showed up “network setup” under Tools menu. everything seems to be set for setup, so i swithced off my syystem to take a rest, only for me to start up my browser and navigate to my root directory, “mydomain” to get a blank page instead logging me in to my site so that i may complete the network setup.

    i dont know what the fault can be. is it because i didnt complete the network setup before turning off my system? or where am i missing it?

    this is the problem in sum: if i navigate to my root directory where i have WP, i get a BLANK page and that did not happened yesterday before closing my browser.
    i need help . thank you all for the time.

    Did you move it as a single site or as multisite?

    Did you actually MOVE WordPress or did you try to run WP out of a subfolder and have it act like it was in root?

    Yes, I did actually move WP to site’s root directory and then enabled WP multisite following the instructions on ‘create network page’. But now when I make request to the server, I get blank pages. Please can somebody help, I need to bring my site quickly. Thank u

    Otherwise, please don’t make multiple posts about the same problem and be patient.

    Turn off ALL plugins and switch back to the TwentyEleven theme. Blank pages are PHP errors normally.
