• I am newer to WP, and had an observation, and question. My observation is that keywords (including permalinks) help get your site noticed by the search engines, as well as backlinks.

I also know that backlinks are good, at least the dofollow ones. My question now, relates to finding good ones. Is it worth my time to seek out these moderated, and often off-subject blogs, or should I put the effort into creating more and better content.

I am a mortgage broker, and in my local market, I see these rinky dink websites that have 1/10 the content, and very static content at that, than I do, ranking high, if not number 1 on Google.

    How are they doing it?

    Thanks

Put the majority of your effort into making better content.

Once you have built up ‘credibility’ with that content, go around to related sites you respect, good ones, and contact them about linking to you. Link to them first, IMO, but build up community creds and the links will follow.

That’s what I am thinking as well. I have gone from absolutely no ranking on Google, to page 3 in just under a month. All I did was use the permalinks (via All-in-one), and wrote 11, 400 word, content rich and keyword rich posts.

There is some reason that these other sites are number one. If it is just content, I will catapult past them, as they have very little of it, and it looks dated.

If they have some other method that they are using, I am hoping to do what they are as well. There are mortgage broker sites which I am on doing posts, with proper link backs.

    Thanks

SEO optimization is … a weird thing. If there’s no good content, then keywords and crap sites win. If there ARE good sites, then they tend to win, since they’ll get linked to.

Don’t rely exclusively on keywords. Use them correctly. ??

Gotcha!! Thanks for the input and I’ll call this resolved.
