I ask because in site health WP put s a warning if php-imagick is not installed.
If it doesn’t use it at all why there is a warning when missing?

Yes, but it did not when this plugin was first built and to my knowledge today, no specific quality settings like ImageMagick Engine offers and no support for Imagemagick binary (only PHP module).

I had troubles with image thumbnails loosing color (where source image would be, say Adobe RGB). After activating this plugin, and setting image quality to 82 in the plugin, the color loss is gone, and images are slightly smaller.
