• since version 4.7 WordPress automatically generates PDF preview images when ImageMagick and Ghostscript are installed on the web server. These preview images are generated with different sizes (like thumbnails) and get stored in the _wp_attachment_metadata meta value under the ‘sizes’ array (including a ‘full’ size, but missing the original image file obviously). The images are named in a way that the file extension ‘.pdf’ gets converted to ‘-pdf.jpg’ or e.g. ‘-pdf-150×150.jpg’ for resized images.

When I try to reupload a PDF using this plugin, the regeneration of the preview images fails. The previews don’t get deleted during the upload process (unlike all sizes get deleted on a normal image reupload) and don’t get generated again.

  • I can second this. On the replace media page if the file is a LDF the thumbnail is just a proven image.
