    Hi,

I have decided to use the “After Registration Redirect URL” option in the advanced settings.

The text below reads “You can enter an URL here to redirect the members to this page after they submit the registration form”.

My understanding is that when the user is done filling out the required information and click the “Register” button, they will be taken to the URL indicated in this field (in my case, https://enligne.tremplindeselus.fr/inscription-presque-terminee/).

That is not what is currently happening on my site.

The plugin instead displays “You need to confirm your email address. Please check your email and follow instructions to complete your registration.” on the same page.

It seems the URL is used, but for something else entirely, namely this is where users are taken once they click the confirmation link they receive by email.

Can you confirm whether my understanding of the feature is correct, and if so, do you have a suggestion as to what might fix the behavior?

    Thanks!
    Pierre

    Hi,

Can you further explain the above comment to me?

    Thank you

I honestly don’t know what else I could add… I’ll rephrase then: when a user clicks “register”, an email is sent with {reg_link}, and when they click it, they arrive at a page saying “registration complete”, and then redirected to the URL I mentioned.

    Does that help?

Yes that helps ?? thank you.

That is the correct steps for the registration process.

Are you wanting to achieve something different than the above?

Then “You can enter an URL here to redirect the members to this page after they submit the registration form” is very misleading. I was hoping the user would be taken to the URL when they click “register”.

I wanted to use the page to explain that they should check spam folders and such. The current solution (just adding a small line of text saying to expect and email) isn’t clear enough IMO.

    Any way to achieve this?

Is the following, the email message received?

    Dear John Do

    Your registration is now complete!

    Registration details
    Username
    Password

The following documentation membership-registration-process-overview shows you an overview of the registration process.

    Thank you

I saw this page, but I’m not sure if this helps getting closer to what I want – unless you mean to say that I can’t do what I want?

I would like a step between the box that says “when registration is completed the free membership account is created” and the box that says “email with login information is sent to the member username password login page URL”. That step would have been a redirect after clicking the “register” button, taking the user to a page that explains what they should do next: that they should go to their inbox and look for an email with a certain title, check their spam folder, etc.

Is there any way to do this?

(And again, regardless of whether I can achieve this, I think there’s a wording issue in the advanced settings, I don’t think many people would understand “You can enter an URL here to redirect the members to this page after they submit the registration form” as something that happens after clicking the link in email rather than after clicking the “register” button at the end of the registration form…)

    Thanks,
    Pierre

Hi, I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your request.

    Thank you

Looks like you have enabled the email activation feature which is NOT the standard setup for this plugin.

The settings are generally geared towards the standard default setup of the following:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/membership-registration-process-overview/

30,000 users of this plugin uses it slightly differently. We try to offer different options to cater to as many as we can but sometimes it is just no possible to cater for all scenarios (trying to cater for all will create complexity and do a dis-service to the existing users who love the way it is working right now).

For the email activation feature, it works exactly the way it is explained in our documentation before. It will not do anything else unfortunately:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/email-activation-for-members/

Regarding the text, we will try to improve it. We observe what the users are saying and once we see a bunch of users pointing out an issue, we take action. One description maybe sounds good to one but the same thing can be confusing to another. So we try to balance things by observing over time.

Our email activation feature may not fulfill your requirement 100% so you may need to look for an alternative solution.

Makes perfect sense to me, esp. since I didn’t realize this wasn’t standard

In any case I think you should consider rephrasing, the language creates a blindspot that’s not easy to uncover for users that enabled email validation like I did ??

    Cheers,
    Pierre
