Doesn't regenerate valid .gif files

Not sure what happened, but the plugin suddenly stopped regenerating valid thumbnails for gif files. I take a look in my FTP server and all of the gif thumbnails come up broken. I’ve deleted the plugin and reinstalled it, but no-go. All the gif thumbnails are still broken, while everything works for jpg and png.
Right now I’m batch-editing all of my gifs to be jpgs in Photoshop (I’ll have to redo all of my media file metadata too, sigh), but they were so much smaller as gifs so this is a disappointment, to say the least.
