Yes. Seeing their own profile before approval is fine. I just do not want to give the public access to the member base and the contents of the public forums.

    Thanks.

Has anyone else tried the version I linked above, besides just Gofunky? Would love different perspectives, as it’s seemed to not always be consistent between users, which doesn’t help me ??

We have also problem with 4.2:

    – systems sends email that there is new user to be approved but it does not show up on the “member requests” -list/ tab so I suppose the user is sent straight through and not held on the queue.

    – we have other protections on place that new users can not access places not intended (subscription models and widget access levels) so we do use BP registration only as first line of spam protection and also verifying that our users qualify – generally easing up process of user acceptance.

    – we have only first check box checked.

I need to test your beta-version to see if it do work, hopefully it works. And most of all – Thank you for your great work on this plugin! It is a cruzial piece of the puzzle accepting new members!

And I confirm that 4.2.1 beta do catch members to queue. And after approval sends email to new member about approval.

    Thank you for the fix!

Good to know this fix is working for at least one person, would love to have some others test it out still before I consider it a “for sure” working version.

    Hi.
I have installed the beta version but it isn’t working for me. I did a test sign up and received the on-screen ‘Check Your Email To Activate Your Account!’ message and also an email saying ‘Thanks for registering! To complete the activation of your account please click the following link:…’ On clicking the link I was taken to a page that had BOTH ‘Your account is now active’ in green and also ‘Your membership account is awaiting approval by the site administrator….’ in red. Then I (as administrator) received an email informing me of a new user registration. I wasn’t given the opportunity to approve the new user at any stage.
Hope this helps you sort out the problem.
    all the best

Furhter to my earlier message – On logging in with the new user details I get this message on the Members profile pages: ‘Your membership account is awaiting approval by the site administrator….’ And if I then log out and log in to the Dashboard as an admin I can then see that this new user is now awaiting approval. However a second test user that I created but did not click through from the ‘Activate your account’ email was not visible in the Member requests page. And then, when I did login as the second test user, logged out and logged in again as admin, this 2nd user did appear on the Member requests page.

Sorry Michael. The 4.2.1 does not work. When a User is activating his account after registering, he/she can access everything, including the forum. Like Mariette, I would like that a new User can’t login after the administrator approved the membership.

They’ve always been able to log in, as long as I’ve been around the plugin. The areas they’re able to access would be what needs limited still.

    RemcoL

    (@remcol)

Clear. Still, they can access all areas, including the forums.

Hi Michael. Not sure if you read my 2 messages above. I thought it would be useful for you to know the exact details of what happened when I did a test sign-up/approve, but here are the basic points: the admin person does not get an email to say an account needs approving, and neither does the Dashboard show that there is a new user waiting approval UNLESS the person who has signed up clicks on the link on the email they receive AND THEN ALSO clicks on the green login link on the website page (ignoring the red message that says you have to await approval). This is clearly not how it is supposed to work.

    2 things:

    1) I haven’t forgotten, I just don’t get regular time to dedicate.

    2) Just to help rule out potential conflicts, is anyone using JUST our plugin? or are you using multiple plugins to try and cover all possible sources? Because all of my testing is with our plugin solo, and other plugins may change how code is executed.

I think the nature of Buddypress means there’s a lot of plugins used typically. I have two test sites, one with the bare minimum loaded and the other with close to 200 plugins loaded. My live site has around 150 plugins though most of those are sidebar widgets.

I should clarify, using JUST our plugin for user/spam prevention, or multiple spam prevention plugins. Not plugins in general. Sorry for that ??

    Mariette

    (@mariette-jackson)

I have these plugins activated: bbPress, BP Registration Options, Buddy Plugin (comes with the Buddy theme I am using, purchased from ThemeForest), BuddyPress and BuddyPress Community Stats.

In BP Registration settings I have both Moderate New Members and the Private Network options ticked. I was using the Private Community for BP plugin to hide bits of the site from non-users but deactivated this (and activated your Private Network option) to simplify testing.

    This is what happens:

When a new user signs up they see a web page that says “Check Your Email to Activate Your Account! You have successfully created your account! To begin using this site you will need to activate your account via the email we have just sent to your address.” An email goes to new user, subject “Activate Your Account”, content “Thanks for registering! To complete the activation of your account please click the following link:…”

No email is sent to administrator. And no new Member Requests appear in the BP Registration dashboard. However, in Users > Manage Signups the new user is visible under the Pending heading.

When the new user clicks on the link in the above email, the new user sees a webpage that says both “Your account is now active!” [in green box] and “Your membership is awaiting approval…etc” [in red box]. An email is then sent to the administrator, subject “New User Registration”, with new user’s username and email.

CORRECTION: A second email was sent to the administrator, subject “New Member Request”, saying new user would like to become a member…” [I found this in spam folder but it had the same time as the previous “New User Registration” email so presume they were sent together]

After the new user clicks on the email link, the new user can then be seen on the Users list (not in Pending as before) and at the top of this list is a message “You have 1 new member request that need to be approved or denied. Please click here to take action”. The new member can then be found on the BP Registration Options Member Requests page.

At this stage the new user is able to log in but they can’t see any BP content except their own profile.

On approval, the new user can fully access the site and a while later an email was sent to the new user, subject “Membership approved”.

So it seems to me that a big issue is that the new user notification is only sent to the admin person once the new user has clicked on the link in the “Activate Your Account” email.
