Hello,
Sometimes, depending on server/hosting configurations, symlink creation fails. That’s why the download link doesn’t supply the backup archives. Of course this doesn’t mean you can’t download your archives. All your backups are kept in “/wp-content/uploads/backup-guard/” directory. And you can download them using any FTP client, e.g. Cyberduck or FileZilla. If you want to fix this, you should contact to your hosting provider and ask them to change that configuration for you. So, we’ll be able to create symlinks pointing to your backups and you’ll be able to download your backups right from BackupGuard dashboard.
If you need more clarifications, please feel free to open a ticket here: https://backup-guard.com/products/backup-wordpress/support.
P.S. In point of view security, that will increase vulnerability if we supply direct urls pointing to the actual backup archives. Each time when you press download button, we dynamically create a symlink with arbitrary name pointing to that backup archive.
B.T.W. We’d really appreciate if you could find a second to reconsider your review regarding our plugin.
