Hello Julie,
I agree with you… that is why for quite a long time I had this thing turned off, in the FAQ it was the first thing at the top, but you know… many users don’t check anything at all. They just install, don’t even know there are settings, send me an email with complains (they don’t even buy it). I have access many WordPress installs and most are a big mess, I can see many people don’t understand and don’t try to understand how everything works.
But I know my educated users will check the plugin settings, the FAQ, the documentation and will turn this off when they install it. But you gave me an idea, maybe I should display a message after the install to explain that the GUID Rename is turned on but that it is better to turn it off. Don’t worry for the users who don’t read anything though, renaming the GUID is actually quite safe so I guess it’s better for most. Don’t know why WordPress is still displaying this as “File name” though. A few plugins are also using the GUID and use it as a filename… :p
