Doesn’t check internal links?
-
Should this plugin be checking internal links as well as external ones — I know we have broken internal links after a content restructuring but they’re not being reported.
-
I hope you’re well today!
By “internal” links you mean links on your site pointing to your site, right?
Broken Link Checker should check and report such links. It should actually check all the links it finds, though it’s also a matter of settings – options for “where” should it look for links and “which” links to check.
On “Settings -> Link Checker” page you’ll find “Look for links in” and “Which links to check” tabs so it might be worth checking options enabled there (for example, it won’t by default check draft or scheduled posts or embedded video URLs).
Also, does it “ignore” this links entirely (it doesn’t find them) or does it report them as fine?
Best regards,
AdamYes, links internal to my site.
Status says:
No broken links found.
No URLs in the work queue.
Detected 334 unique URLs in 367 links. It seems to be looking for links in the right pieces of content, and only Published content (which is what I want).
However, it only seems to be checking images and yourtube videos, not http/https links.
I have the following Link types ticked in ‘Which Links to check’:
HTML Images
Plaintext URLS
Embedded YouTube videosMy urls are all https
There’s nothing in the Exclusion list.
Protocols and APIS are set to check using Basic HTTP and YouTube API

Hello @colevalleygirl
I trust you’re doing well!
Please go to the Settings > Links Checker, open tab “Look For Links In” and tick on options like:
Pages Posts Blocks
And any other sections where you wish the plugin to check for links.
Under Post statuses on the same settings page, please choose the stud of a pots type, either it is published, draft and etc.
In the Which Links To Check tab, please make sure to tick on the HTML Links option.
Let us know how it went!
Kind regards,
Nastia“Look for Links In” — all those settings are already ticked and as I said previously, the right content is being searched because image links are being found.
There is no HTML Links option under “Which Links to Check.”
The options I have are:
HTML images (ticked)
Plaintext URLs (ticked)
Embedded YouTube videos (ticked)
Embedded GoogleVideo videos
Embedded YouTube playlists (old embed code)
Embedded YouTube videos (old embed code)
Smart YouTube httpv:// URLs
Embedded DailyMotion videos
Embedded Vimeo videos- This reply was modified 4 years, 5 months ago by colevalleygirl.
Hello @colevalleygirl
I trust all is well.
Option HTML Links is located right above the
HTML image
please see this screenshot:
https://take.ms/0mY5sIf this option is not shown, please backup your site and re-install the plugin. Also please share here a screenshot of the settings page from your end.
Please advise,
Kind regards,
NastiaI’ve uninstalled and reinstalled; it hasn’t helped. Screenshot attached.

Any update on this? — a missing option seems pretty fundamental…
Hello @colevalleygirl
I trust you’re doing well!
I’ve tested the plugin on multiple sites and the HTML Links option is showing everywhere. Would you please run a test for a conflict?
Please deactivate all plugins besides the Brocken Link Checker and see if the option is there.
– If all is well, start activating one plugin at a time, till the HTML Links checkbox will disappear again
Please have a full backup of your site before running this test, so if something will go wrong, you may always restore it.
Kind regards,
NastiaI did this on my development system.
The conflicting plugin is Pods 2.70.20.1, which is pretty fundamental to the site.
Hello @colevalleygirl
Thank you for testing this and for your response!
I just installed this version of Pods on my test site, though, and still can’t replicate that and the option for “HTML Links” is still there. I’ve also enabled all the “Components” that came with the plugin and that didn’t change anything either.
I believe there might be something more involved then and it’d be either Pods along with theme or some very specific setting of it.
There seems to be a migration component in the plugin so would you be able to export Pods settings and share with us for further testing on our end?
Also, what is the theme that you are using on site?
Kind regards,
AdamThe theme is Labbook Child: https://wordpresschildthemes.com/labbook-child-theme/

Hello there @colevalleygirl
I was able to replicate by importing your Pod settings, using a default theme. I’ve created a report for our developers in order to have a better look at that. We’ll keep you posted here as soon as we’ve got some more insights.
Thank you,
DimitrisThanks. At least we don’t need to change out theme — my co-website builder would cry!
Hello @colevalleygirl

This issue has been flagged to our developers and a fix will be released in the feature plugin’s updates.
