I have been using XML sitemaps since I started my website. However, after realizing that my sitelinks went down in google appearance, I started snooping around my sitemap in general. The map hasnt updated since last YEAR . I had to go INTO the XML sitemap and hit “notify google, etc” and then all my changes took hold. So it isnt really set and rest as its portrayed to be or if designed to be, it has a flaw somewhere. I would have taken this to a developer to see if it was something I had done wrong, but you make it IMPOSSIBLE to contact a developer, seriously what gives?

    Sorry you’re encountering problems.

I did confirm that creating/updating a page/post will generate a new sitemap file in /wp-content/sitemaps/sitemap.xml. If you go to yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml you should see this file.

I don’t understand what you mean by

I had to go INTO the XML sitemap and hit “notify google, etc” and then all my changes took hold

. You’re saying you edited the plugin file directly? There is no capability in the plugin’s Settings screen to ping google, so I’m confused.

The thing you should check is that there is no actual sitemap.xml file in your website’s root folder. If there is a file present, Apache will use this file instead of the virtual file mapped to /wp-content/sitemaps/sitemap.xml. so if it is there, please delete it.

    Mike
