• All complains about the implementation of the new “BIG image” enhancements are dismissed with a suggestion to just install this plugin to disable it.

Well, now I have the plugin installed and there is still no solution to the “Post-processing of the image failed. If this is a photo or a large image, please scale it down to 2500 pixels and upload it again” error!

Just add an option to disable it already.

I am sorry that the plugin is not working for you. To clarify the intent of the plugin, this plugin will not prevent that error from displaying.

That error is in place to make users aware that something on the server failed during the image upload process, which spans from the upload itself to WordPress creating all of the registered image sizes.

This plugin will only disables the feature added in WordPress 5.3 that generates an additional 2500px wide version of the original image that is used instead of the true original image size. This helps save resources when generating smaller image sub sizes (this is easier to do with a 2500px image than a 6000px image), and helps with site performance by serving a smaller image to users.

If you still feel this plugin should be solving your issue, please feel free to open up a new support topic with more information about your setup so that someone can help you debug.
