Does this plugin replace the current images that it compresses or does it make completely new files?

I’d like to be able to run the compressor every now and then and have it replace all images currently being used in posts.

If it just creates new files, I don’t see the purpose as I would have to go back to each post (over 500) and update the image paths.

Can anyone weigh in on this?

    Thank you

Yes, it optimizes the images in place, but makes no change if the resulting image would be larger in size.

Once the plugin is installed, it will automatically optimize all images as they are uploaded, so there is no need to re-run the bulk tool in the future.

just to make sure as i have hundreds of posts and photos. if i bulk optimize all of my posts photos will still work. I trying to make the site much smaller so i was thinking about using this setting

Delete originals This will remove the original image from the server after a successful conversion.

    is that a good idea?

If you are only optimizing images, and not attempting conversions, like GIF2PNG or PNG2JPG, the Delete originals option will do nothing for you.

All other images are optimized ‘in place’ and checks are made by the plugin to make sure we don’t end up with empty images.

That all said, I would NOT attempt such a large operation until you have a good backup of your entire wordpress site (database AND files).
