Does removing category base slow down WooCommerce?

According to https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/removing-product-product-category-or-shop-from-the-urls/, Removing /product/ , /product-category/ , or /shop/ from the URLs will affect performance, but according to https://ottopress.com/2010/category-in-permalinks-considered-harmful/ it’s fixed a long time ago. I would like to know if the WooCommerce support doc is still relevant? Will removing the product category, shop,or products affect performance of my site? If yes, then what is your thought on replacing these terms with another word instead of removing them? Thanks.
