Does not work with maximum number of characters

Im defining a qtranslate text field in ACF 4x and setting a limit for number of characters allowed. When I then enter text into the field, it does not seem to respect the limit at all.
Tested both with qtranslate text field and text area.
Using wordpress 4x, ACF 4x and mQtranslate
