• I tried to configure this and add it by shortcode to a draft. I tried to get my Facebook access code, dug into my settings (ad I was logged in through my profile) but I could not find any access token. And I got an error message that said that some of the “aliases” I requested “did not exist.” The aliases that they cited, WHICH DOES EXIST, is my Facebook group, which is https://www.facebook.com/groups/missingadultskids

    My website: https://www.missingadultskids.com

If I can’t get the free version to work, I certainly can’t get the PRO version.

  • Hey Idesherl,

The first thing you want to do is make sure there is not an issue with the plugin and rather the issue lies with Facebook itself or the account you are trying to retrieve from within Facebook.

To test our plugin please put this shortcode on a test page. The save the page and view it. You should see two posts from the NBC Facebook Page.

    [custom-facebook-feed id=nbc num=2]

If you are seeing what I describe then everything is set up fine and your issue will most likely be the account itself that you are trying to retrieve data from within Facebook. I have tested the missingadultskids Facebook Group in our interactive demo here and also get the notice that this account is unavailable.

The most likely reason for this is going to be that the account has restrictions that were put in place by the Group accounts owner/administrator. The two most likely restrictions found on accounts is either “age” or “country”. Please contact the administrator of this Facebook Group and ask if they are willing to remove the restrictions so the data can be passed through the Facebook API to your website.

If you have further questions or issues and the plugin is not working with the test shortcode provided then please let me know and I will assist you further as needed.

    Hey @ldesherl,

Based on the error message you described, it sounds as though you’re probably using the group slug (missingadultskids) rather than the ID (218164558660741). As it’s a group then you’d need to use the numeric ID as Facebook needs that ID in order to return the data. Could you try using that numeric ID instead? Here’s an example of your group feed in our Pro demo to demonstrate that it works: https://smashballoondemo.com/?id=218164558660741&layout=half&type=group

    Many thanks,

    John

THank you! I found my numeric ID and added and, and I have the feed! UNfortunately, it shows no images. I guess that is a PRO feature? I can’t afford to go PRO right now, but I tried my group page in the demo and I love how it looks!

I have a question for you: HOw can I embed a “Join GRoup” button by the feed, so readers don’t have to go to the group to join? THank you!

    Now I get THIS:

Notice: Undefined index: type in /home/banabort/public_html/missingpersons/wp-content/plugins/redux-framework/ReduxCore/framework.php on line 1240

    Hey @ldesherl,

Glad to hear you were able to get things working using the numeric ID. Displaying images is a feature of our Pro version. We don’t set any limits on how many feeds or posts you can display with the free version, but do reserve some features for the Pro version in order to allow us to continue to support and maintain this plugin for free. You can see all of the differences here.

It’s not possible to add a button to join a group unfortunately, as Facebook doesn’t allow that. They would have to actually go to the group on Facebook in order to join the group. See this thread for more info. It’s possible to add a button to “like” a Facebook page, but not possible to add a button to join a group I’m afraid.

It looks like the notice in your last message is from this plugin and so you may need to post a message in their support forum to get help with that.

If you have any other questions at all then just let me know.

    Many thanks,

    John
