• I have been following all of the developer’s comments and all the “cases closed” and “resolved” issues. However, as of today, this plugin still causes our website to crash if I activate it. I feel the developers are marking issues resolved just to make it appear they are resolved, even when they are not. There are serious issues with this plugin, and our inability to use it even thought we are on WordPress and host with Siteground has led to our website having poor functionality. I even had a ticket at Siteground about this plugin and all the issues it causes us, and it was “closed” as resolved.

    I’m sorry, but noting something as “closed” or “resolved” when it is not seems to me to be a great disservice to your clients. I have contacted Siteground and opened a NEW ticket about this issue today. I am extremely disappointed in the developer’s responses and the continual issues with this plugin, which used to work fine as it was.

    I am sorry that you feel this way. In the new plugin version we have added huge amount of new functionality. So far, our plugin was “touching” only parts of your site related to the hosting environment – Caching, PHP Version, SSL, etc. Now, we’ve added optimizations that work more directly with the WP core. Unfortunatelly, this causes issues with badly written plugins, themes, custom code, etc. We’ve addressed each reported problems and fixed more than 90% of everything reported. Most of the time it’s a theme or other plugin’s fault but we add workarounds because it’s very difficult to change others’ software.

    It is strange that you speak of topics – that’s the only one you’ve opened in the SG Optimizer profile. If you mean Help Desk tickets – my colleagues from the Support Team report all issues on a daily basis and we add them to the development queue. I can assure you that nothing will remain unaddressed we just prioritize problems.

    If you provide me your ticket number I would love to look into it further and follow it up with a better solution of the problem you’re experiencing.

    @hristo-sg, Here is the most recent ticket: Ticket 2968808

    The latest answer I received is this:

    “It seems that the issue was caused by the HTML Minification option of the plugin which doesn’t appear to work as expected with your current theme. I disabled the feature and the site is working as expected.

    You can continue to use the plugin for caching but leave the minification options disabled so they don’t break the layout.”

    I have not tested this yet or seen it in action. But I would appreciate if you look into this ticket and provide any help you can for us as we would prefer to use this plugin. I am not a developer or coder, but I do “manage” our company’s website and am responsible for the content as well.

    Thank you.

    The problem is caused by broken HTML:

    <div class="wpb_wrapper">5="vc_span12 wpb_column column_container col no-extra4466ding" data-padding-pos="all" data-hover-bg="" data-animation="" data-delay="0">

    Our minification service goes through it and breaks your formating because of this part:

    class="wpb_wrapper">5="vc_span12

    Could you fix that and then give minification another try please?

    @hristo-sg, I am not a programmer and am not able to understand what you are asking me to do, or where to get this fixed. We use off-the-shelf WordPress and plugins. I have not customized any of the software myself, but it is possible that others did so before I inherited this website.

    Is there any way you call provide more support and information on your suggestion? Such as where this code might be found? I have no idea even where to look or how to approach trying to fix what you are suggesting.

    You have incorrect HTML code on your website. When we minify that incorrect code, it gets even more broken and causes your site to look bad.

    I would prefer not to interfere with your site but if you confirm, I can edit that code for you and enable the minification.

    It is definitelly, not a problem with the plugin, I can assure you of that.

    @hristo-sg I am confirming that it is okay for you to edit that incorrect code and then enable the minification.

    Provided that if you enable the minification and the site again breaks, you will restore the backup.

    Please let me know if you need anything else from me. I believe I have provided everything you and Siteground need in order to assist with this issue.

    Thank you very much for your assistance. If all goes well, I’ll revise my review up to 5 stars.

    @hristo-sg I am wondering if you were able to address this issue? I have not heard anything from you on this. Do you need anything else from me?

    I was able to recreate it and I don’t need anything more as information. Working on it and will fix it in the next update. Will update this ticket too!

    @hristo-sg,

    I’ve been considering moving my website business over to a new hosting provider. The hosting service I am with has never failed me, but as I make plans to grow my company, cutting out steps or creating a more efficient workflow is becoming more important. I like to play, but clients don’t want to pay for the time and time is $$.
    I have SG on my “to investigate” list and seeing your response to @garrettzucker I’m beyond impressed. The optimizer is a huge value add for me as I do everything manually. It’s rare you see a developer willing to go the extra mile, especially for a complete noob, but we’ve all been there and will be there again because constant change is here to stay.

    Cheers!

    @garrettzucker – Regardless of whether your site is fixed you should say Thank You because it’s commonly known that it isn’t a plugin developer’s job to fix poor/uninformed website choices or coding. It also isn’t the responsibility of a theme developer to re-code a plugin to work with his or her theme. These complications are common in WordPress and the province of developers that you (or your company) pay to fix when you are unable to handle on your own. It’s also the reason God created WordPress.com, Wix, Weebly and Squarespace.

    WordPress dot org is a big puzzle with lots of individual pieces put together to create a desired look and functionally. It is the job of the website professional to put all the pieces together in a way that works as intended, code them to look/work as desired or pay someone to solve the broken piece (read not expect it).

    Every time something is updated in WP Core, every single piece of your website puzzle may need to be updated by the theme and plugin creators to assure your site continues to work correctly. If your company uses an old theme, or no longer pays for yearly theme/plugin updates, I’m betting you will eventually run into more issues, so you should think about it now before the next problem strikes. You should also look at what version of WP you are using and go into the plugin repository and make sure each plugin has been updated to work with the new WP Core version that was recently released. If you are confused by any of this, I would be happy to help you.
