    Hi,

I notice plugin (version 2.8.2) does not scale PNG images. I’ve tried uploading PNG images at 2 different sites (with and without transparant background), but they stay the original size.

    Hi Guido,

Hrm, that seems odd. Can you share one of the images that isn’t resizing (without transparency)? If you would rather, you can share it to us directly here:

    Hi @adamewww

Sorry, just noticed your reply. I will do some testing with another large png image tomorrow and if there are still issues I will send you a link to the file.

    Hi again,

This image (temp link) will not scale at 2 of my websites. Even after making changes to it.

Other PNG images do scale, so I guess it’s caused by something in the structure of this image.

When I try to resize image via the media library (button Resize Image), this error is returned:

ERROR: 2023/05/Test-image.png (File size of resized image was larger than the original)

Ahh, that would mean that when scaling the image, the file-size is ending up larger than the original. There was a question asked about this where Shane gave a really good write-up on everything that could be going on:

    Hi,

So becasue of the quality and compression of the original PNG image, plugin is unable to resize image and generate a smaller (PNG) image size.
I don’t have much knowledge about image resizing and compression, but apparently there’s no solution availabe for this, to include in Imsanity?

It does resize properly when also choosing the conversion from PNG to JPG.

Yeah, essentially when a PNG (which is lossless and good for images with minimal colors) is resized, you end up with more colors as the differing colors get blended between pixels that are close to each other. This can then result in an image that is larger than one that may be bigger in dimensions.
