Everything works fine for me. It is firing on https://www.spreadablejoy.com/artwork-blog/ and on individual posts (e. g. https://www.spreadablejoy.com/2015/02/10/new-childrens-illustration-website/). I’m using Chrome. The popups do not fire in every browser.

Normally, users can click on every point around the white popup window.
You can also add an element (your own close button) by using the CSS class “modal-footer” or “modal-close”.
Example:
