Whilst I really appreciate the time in developing this free plugin, I can’t help but wonder if the new options are desired by most users. From my own experience, I just needed a way to reduce the heartbeat to something like 60 seconds.

Since the updated version, I no longer use the plugin and just use a custom function instead. It doesn’t make much sense to add CMB2 to a site just for this.

This isn’t intended as a dig. I’m just genuinely curious as to what people use this plugin for now. Maybe I’m missing a trick. Do people use the new options to good effect?

I’ve had quite a few requests for things like conditional logic and more granular control, and this sets me up for easier addition of new options.

CMB2 is there simply to avoid the need to maintain my own options API. Since CMB2 is only loaded used for settings pages, the only additional overhead exists there.

If you only need to make a single quick change, using the hook directly makes sense. This plugin just allows for a bit more for those who need it or those who don’t know how to implement the hook.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the quick reply!

What you’re saying makes perfect sense. It’s also good to know that CMB2 is only called on the settings page.

I guess I’ve just never experienced a situation where granular control of the Heartbeat API was required. Maybe one day!
