I’m currently using the free version of Smush that doesn’t produce WebP images.

Does your plugin do everything that Smush does, plus the WebP conversion function?

I.e. If I deactivate Smush and replace it with your plugin, will I lose any functionality?

    Hi @markrr,

    Thank you for your message.

Our plugin optimizes images to the WebP format and AVIF format. It does not alter the original images in any way. The AVIF format is the successor to the WebP format. Images converted to the AVIF format weigh about 50% less than images converted only to the WebP format, while maintaining better image quality.

How does the plugin work? When a browser tries to download an image file, the plugin checks if it supports the AVIF format (if enabled in the plugin settings). If so, the browser will receive the equivalent of the original image in the AVIF format. If it does not support AVIF, but supports the WebP format, the browser will receive the equivalent of the original image in WebP format. In case the browser does not support either WebP or AVIF, the original image is loaded. This means full support for all browsers.

    Best,
    Mateusz

Your answer didn’t really address my question, but thank you. I just wanted to know if I deactivate the free Smush and use your plugin instead, what features would I miss out on.

@markrr Sorry, but I don’t know the Smush plugin fully enough to answer your question exactly.

Hi @mateuszgbiorczyk – I found this thread and wanted to add to it rather than opening a new topic.

I’ve been using CFM for a couple of years now and it’s great, it’s become a fundamental part of how we build WP sites.

We have recently been having issues weith storage space however, with clients often uploading too large or bloated imagery, of which we have little control. A good solution for this is using Smush to auto-optimise on upload, inc all the WP variations of that image.

My question is how this would work with your plugin, as I know you don’t edit any source files, simply converting to webP or AVIF, in which case would they work together, or require a force regeneration of webP and AVIF after the images are compressed by Smush?

    Many thanks
