Does ImageKit generate and deliver images in the AVIF format to browsers that support it?

If yes, what backup format is delivered to browsers that don’t’?

If yes, what is the procedure for activating the delivery of images in the AVIF format?

    Thank you!

    Hey!

Yes, ImageKit provides support for AVIF format for supported browsers. While using automatic image format conversion, ImageKit can also automatically determine the image formats supported on the requesting device and analyze the input image for its content to decide the best output image format for delivery.

For example, the following URL delivers the optimized image in AVIF format on Chrome 85+, WebP format on Firefox, and JPG format on Safari.

    https://ik.imagekit.io/ikmedia/backlit.jpg?tr=w-300,h-300

You can read more about it here and here.

You can test drive AVIF by passing f-avif as a transformation.

If you would like to enable AVIF on all images that are delivered through your account, you can enable Use best format for Image Delivery in Settings section of ImageKit Dashboard.

Feel free to reach out if you need any help or you can contact at [email protected]

    Hope this helps.

    Hi @ahnvdhiman,

Thanks for the quick reply. That’s awesome.

I plan to test-drive your plugin using a staging site first, then switch to our live site pending test results.

    Again, thank you.
