• Hello, I read somewhere that having many plugins, even if they are deactivated, slows down the blog.

So I am wondering whether having many themes in the “themes” folder may decrease to some extent the users experience while surfing the blog.

Anybody knows anything concrete on this topic?

  • Deactivated themes and plugins take up server disk space, and may cause the admin pages used for them to load slower, but should not affect actual live site page load times (unless you have a finite amount of disk space and you are at or near your limit). That said, if not in use, they have no purpose. They will cause site file and db backups to take a longer time and until deleted add ‘dead space’. Use the admin options to delete deactivated plugins and themes, not FTP, as deleting these using FTP leave that dead space in the db – the routines used to clear the plugin or theme options/data from db are not run…
