    Hi,

I wanted to confirm that Duplicator (free version) backs up all the WordPress files, settings and database so that I can completely clone a site.

I know the Pro version has more features and capabilities. But if I’m just backing up a basic site and Duplicator throws no errors during a backup, is there anything that I’m missing (in terms of something not being backed up) by using the free version for now?

I have a couple WordPress sites that are on virtual server instances that I am testing now by making changes on the server side (eg, adjusting memory settings via php.ini). In these cases, I use my hosting company to take snapshots of the instance as a backup as I know these changes won’t be backed up by Duplicator.

However, if I am only making changes to WordPress (eg, adding/disabling plugins, changing functions.php file, modifying themes), does the free Duplicator back all these settings up?

    Thanks!

  • Hey @lychee128,

Duplicator will back up a full copy of your database and all of your files in your WordPress root if no filters for files or database tables are set. In the event your server has trouble reading a particular file it will show up in the logs of the build package.

    Thanks~

Got it. By “if no filters for files or database tables are set,” do you mean my own settings in Duplicator when it’s going through the sets? I’m assuming if I accept all the default settings, then everything is backed up, correct?

    Thanks!

Correct on Step 1 of the Build users can exclude files/directories or database tables.

    Hope that helps~
