Does anyone know whats the code to show the authors name along with the posts?

I’m talking about the name of the author and have it show up along with the date of the post when it was posted.

I know that some themes have it pre-installed but my template doesnt. And I just really wanted to know where I’d stick the code, etc (Main Index Template, etc(
