• I’m very new to wordpress and am trying to upload some documents to a website I am working on for my employer so they can be added to a Post Table Pro table. I’d like these documents to be stored in the same place as existing files, but when I open the media library, the files aren’t there. The URLs for the existing document are: websitename.com/documents/subfolder/filename.pdf
I’m currently working on a dev site and don’t have access to the parent site. Is the likely issue that these files are stored somewhere related to the parent site, or is there somewhere else i can look? Thanks!

  • If you upload the files through the WP admin (could be from the Media Library or from the editor), then not only is the file put where all the others are, but entries are made in the database for the file information, and that file can then be easily referenced from within the editor or in a query for attachments by WP or plugins.

But if you simply upload the files to the server, WP doesn’t know about the files. WP does not ever go searching the folders for media files, although you might have a plugin that does this. WP only uses the information in the database to find media files.
