Documents inside folders not showing up

Hello!
I have a page that uses the mdocs shortcode to display the full library of my documents. In it, I have three folders with various docs inside them, and one document in the root folder.When I go to the admin side, I can see all of the documents correctly. However, from the front end, I can only see the document that’s in the root folder, and when I click into one of the 3 folders, none of the docs show up.
I tried some of the other fixes, like checking the display post status box under upload settings. All of the files are public. I also tried the “batch edit” and save fix.
One issue I saw in the “test server compatibility” link is that my PHP version is not supported (5.4.5).
These documents were appearing a few weeks ago when I checked, but no longer appear. I can also link directly to the documents-they just don’t appear properly in the doc library.
