Do we still need ping optimization plugins?

  • Do we still need ping optimization plugins like MaxBlogPress in the latest (4.3.1) version of WordPress, or has that issue been resolved?

    It seemed like a ridiculous thing to me at the time way back when I first found out about this, that every time you update a post, even if it’s for a spelling error or something minor, that it would send out a ping to all your listed ping servers and that could have a detrimental effect. In the ensuing years that I have been using WordPress I have seen it go from strength to strength, making changes based on sensible customer feedback. So it seems to me like this issue might have been solved, but I have found little information on it after doing some research online.

    Can anyone tell me if this is still a problem or not?
