• Hello, I am familiar with WordPress but new to “responsive” themes and the associated php and css coding. I am trying to re-create a website that has posts in the center and sidebars on both sides.

In general do responsive themes not show the left sidebar in mobile view? Is that a responsive standard?

What do you recommend as far as sidebars and posts? Should I keep trying to recreate the old website or switch to a layout that has posts and a right sidebar?

The site I need to re-do to make it responsive is at: https://mnforensicnurses.org/

  • Greetings!

Converting a site to be responsive is a major undertaking that usually means rethinking a lot of things. Basically the entire site – meaning all its content – eventually winds up as one column for mobile devices. You’ll need to really think about what needs to be displayed there. It’s a major redesign. You could consider changing to a responsive theme to get started, but there’s still a lot of work to do to get it set up.

You can find a lot of information on the internet about responsive design. In my humble opinion, your site does look dated and could use a refresh. Making it responsive can be an integral part of that process.

Thanks Julie, I plan start over with a new responsive theme. I was hoping to use a theme with sidebars on both sides but then there decisions about the left sidebar content on mobile devices. I noticed that on mobile view, some themes put the sidebar content before the posts and some put the sidebar content after the posts. So a decision will need to be made about which way is best.

Switching to a responsive design is full of decisions. Some content may not even be needed on a mobile device. Good luck and have fun with it!
