• Newbie question.

Your GTM is installed and my basic GAnalytics connection is published in GTM.

    I want to track:

    Outbound links
    Exclude logged in User
    YouTube tracking

I take it that I still need to create these events in GTM even though I have installed your plugin? Sounds like a stupid question but this is not clear to me!

If so, once I create the above 3 events using GTM, I will see the tracking in Google Analytics in the Events section?

    Thanks, Jess

Continuing… I guessed that I still needed to use GTM.
So I’ve created ‘outbound link tracking’ and ‘exclude logged in User’ by using some online tutorials (including yours for logged in User)

For YouTube tracking – does your plugin just handle that automatically? In your How to section you say I just need to tick your video checkbox.

For Tag > Social I don’t know what I should put in for these settings:

    Network
    Action
    Action Target
    Fire On

Lastly, where do I go to pay you for paid help?

    Hi,

Thanks for your questions, they are really important and I think they should be discussed!

It is important to know a conceptional difference between Google Analytics plugins and my Google Tag Manager plugin (or better said between GA and GTM)

GA plugins can add codes that track events and pageviews on your site automatically. This is by design since Google Tag Manager itself isn’t a tracking platform. GTM is not just for tracking thinks in Google Analytics, it can be used to setup a wide range of codes, snippets, marketing tags.

Because of this, my plugin does not track anything automatically. Although there is an API (a programmatic way) to access your GTM container, it has some limitations when it comes to the number of calls an app can make per day.
Mainly because of this my plugin does not add anything automatically to your GTM contaier as well.

All in all my plugin can add (maybe) usefull codes to your site so that you should not do coding by yourself. But you still need to understand the logic behind the data layer, how it works and how data layer events work. Using this knowledge and with the tutorials on my website, you can setup many kind of tracking, even for non-GA cases.

I hope that helps you understand the basic concepts.
If you still have questions, please let me know.

    Thomas
