I have wordfence installed on my main site.
    /home/mysite/public_html/wordfence-waf.php

I recently cloned mysite under development.
    /home/mysite/public_html/development

I received this message from wordfence.
To make your site as secure as possible, take a moment to optimize the Wordfence Web Application Firewall:

When I click to configure, I see the following php file listed in the directory.
    /home/mysite/public_html/wordfence-waf.php

Do I need to worry about optimizing since development is in the public_html directory? Or do I need to modify this path? I’ll do whatever is best for my site.

    Please advise
    Ronald Cross

Hi @stemsrus, thanks for reaching out.

If the /development path isn’t publicly accessible then you don’t necessarily need to optimize the firewall. Some customers choose not to do this with their local development environments to prevent issues around the location of wordfence-waf.php in .htaccess not matching when the site goes live. Some may even disable Wordfence so it doesn’t run scans or any other checks until they enable it on their live site.

As your /development path looks to be inside your current live site’s root folder, it may be advisable to disable Wordfence so you’re not running two sets of scans etc. You can make the live version still scan the folder by enabling ?Wordfence > All Options > General Options Scan files outside your WordPress installation.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
