    Hey!
I’ve got a windows hotel, and I cannot install wordpress on it… I’m told its because I need a linux server… Is that true? Its not on the list of requirements, but I don’t know what else the problem is… I just get a 404 error when I go to the install, and the URL is right (I’ve tried on another domain as well).
Can anyone help me with an answer?

WordPress can work on Windows. I have several versions of WordPress working on my local Window XP machine. You just need PHP.

It works well on Apache web server. There may be issues with IIS though. What web server do you use?

404 means “File not found”. So it’s not WordPress error. It’s either a typo in the URL, or misconfigured web server.

    Hi Detnice,
no WordPress need not really a Linux Server. See the requirements for running, and check your’e server.

    Tip
Also if you ar a fan of MS-Windows, setup one time a server with Linux, eg CentOS or so. Sure you have an old PC – try with them.
Do not install graphical enviroument only server tools. When running go to apachefriends.org get lampp and install them.

I solved it by changing to a Linux server… It just seemed like the easy solution…

If you are on godaddy, for example, you do need Linux.
