I am using WPML to create a multi-language site and I’ve translated all downloads successfully. Now, when I use a short-code to call upon a download in a SECONDARY language, I get the title in the correct language, but the download link goes to the BASE language link.

For example: I have a short-code linking to a GERMAN download, using the download-id. It fetches the correct title (in German), but links to the ENGLISH download.

What might be the reason this happens?

  • Hello @aardi,

Can you please let me know if the download ID is different for your 2 languages? Also, have you setup 2 different files for each version of the download?

Yes, WPML creates a separate post for each language, each with a unique (download-)ID. I’ve assigned different outgoing links to each download.

I’ve assigned different version #s to each file for testing purposes and the displayed version # is CORRECT for both languages, meaning that:

    [download_data id=”pageID” data=”version”] works

    but

    [download_data id=”pageID” data=”download_link”] gives the wrong link.

I’ve disabled any and all caching, cleared browser cache, used different browsers and incognito/private mode.

I think it might have something to do with duplicate URLs. Is there a way to change or reset the download URL?

Alright, it’s definitely the URLs, I tracked down one of the download-IDs in the MySQL database and changed the URL, went to the WordPress backend and updated the permalinks and voilà – it works!

Is there an easy way to edit/unlock the download URL?

    Hey,

Could you please elaborate what URL you changed in the backend? Also, could you please let me know what Download Monitor version you’re using and what your Download endpoint setting is set to? You can check your setting here: https://imgur.com/a/a1n6y
