I love the idea of this plugin, but I’m running into issues with the latest version of the Divi theme (integrated with WPML for translation). Images and Sliders don’t appear to work at all. For sliders I see the text of the first slide, neither in sliders nor images show, err, images.
I’m rebuilding my site from scratch and have only populated a few pages so far – the goal is to only serve this as a static site once I’m done and use WP simply to maintain the content. If you load https://awsweb.subsurface-divelog.org/de you’ll see the broken slider and you won’t see the images in the text below. If you switch to the English version I’ve replaced the Divi Image with plain tags and there the two images are shown (so the images themselves are correctly exported). Poking at the HTML/CSS of the German page (or any other language) I can see that the opacity of the images is simply set to 0 if using the Divi Image.
(if you want to see the full dynamic WP site, go to https://subsurface-divelog.org – way more pages and a slightly older version of the theme – but you’ll get the idea how it’s supposed to look).
Happy to provide any other information that can help you help me ??
    Thanks

    Hi Dirk,

I can see a lot of assets with 500 response codes in the static site. These look to just be missing/not picked up in the crawl, so we can start to look there.

Under your Logs tab, I’d like to see what the “Detected WordPress URLs” presents.

There may be an issue crept in post 6.0 with certain WordPress site URL detections, I have a minor fix that may help in the latest dev builds, but will be good to replicate/isolate the issue.

Could you please share with me a bit more about the hosting environment/how WordPress is installed?

I’ve got you on email and can do some testing with dev builds if you’re keen, else I’ll work to replicate and solve the issue here.

    Cheers,

    Leon

That’s odd that you see 500 response codes:

    $ grep 500 /var/log/apache2/static-access.log
    $

i.e., I don’t see a single 500 in my log (and actually, the only non-200 response code is the initial redirect). Can you tell me some assets for which you see those response codes? Are those from other domains? Or are those from https://subsurface-divelog.org (i.e. the original site)…

The static site (awsweb…) is hosted on AWS – a Ubuntu 18.04 VM that I have full root access to. The WP installation that I’m exporting from (i.e. my “new” website) is on the same server. The database for that WordPress installation is on AWS-Aurora.
The original site (subsurface-divelog.org) is running on a different server – but that was the starting point for the filesystem that’s on the AWS server. I sent you the logs that you were looking for in email, there are a few more explanations in that email.

More than happy to test dev builds. I can even give you access to the AWS server as this is a pure dev environment that doesn’t have anything super confidential on it right now… biggest risk to me would be AWS charges, I guess ??

I was seeing 500’s in the browser console, Network tab for https://awsweb.subsurface-divelog.org/de/

I’m getting a few other reports of a similar issue and have isolated it to a build past 6.0, so will be doing some testing to replicate and fix tonight/tomorrow, with a fix due out with 6.2.

I’ll be specifically be testing in an AWS + Bitnami setup, as have confirmation it’s reproducible there with an easy WP config. I’ll sing out in case I’m still needing more testing environments, thanks for offering.

Version 5.8 at the bottom of this page is reported working for at least one case where the latest isn’t, so that may get you going in the meantime, but the plugin has undergone quite a rewrite/bugfix/feature addition since then and I’m not supporting 5.8 any longer, so recommend waiting for the 6.2.

    Cheers,

    Leon

Happy to wait a couple of days. Equally happy to test a dev build before then. I’m in US/Pacific time zone…

Thanks for the amazing support, Leon.
The test build of the next version that you sent me fixed the problem!

    Hi Dirk,

Just a heads up on the latest release, which fixes several issues with the export.

Please grab 6.6.3 and let me know if any other blockers, want to help you get Subsurface smoothly exporting to static!

    Cheers,

    Leon
