    Hello,

I was wondering : could we display a random list in the GD archive page?

So far the archive is listed in an order of appearance, with html reading:

    [gd_listings title=” post_type=’gd_place’ category=” related_to=” tags=” post_author=” post_limit=’100′ post_ids=” add_location_filter=’true’ show_featured_only=’false’ show_special_only=’false’ with_pics_only=’false’ with_videos_only=’false’ show_favorites_only=’false’ favorites_by_user=” use_viewing_post_type=’false’ use_viewing_term=’false’ sort_by=” title_tag=’h3′ layout=’2′ view_all_link=’false’ with_pagination=’false’ top_pagination=’false’ bottom_pagination=’true’ pagination_info=” hide_if_empty=’false’ row_gap=” column_gap=” card_border=” card_shadow=” bg=” mt=” mr=” mb=’3′ ml=” pt=” pr=” pb=” pl=” border=” rounded=” rounded_size=” shadow=” with_carousel=” with_indicators=” with_controls=” slide_interval=’5′ slide_ride=” ]

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,

Make sure to include GD Loop in your archive template.

You can set a random sorting order using the sorting options.

The random order will reset every 24 hours to save strain on your server.

    ok,thank you

I did what was suggested on the tutorial:
Adding “title” to the Sorting Options in the SORTING tab

Enabling in Posts sort options : “Include this field in sorting options”

But when going back to “GD loop” in “GD ARCHIVE” page, I can’t seem to activate the random sorting option in the GD loop block….
    Any idea here?

    Thanks

    Hi @roro111,

For the standard archive pages you set the sort options under the CPT settings. Places > Settings > Sorting

    Thanks,

thanks, but once I reach the SORTING tab in the CPT settings, I don’t find anyway to have a random sorting of my listings…

I didn’t find the “how to ” on that GD tutorial neither…

What I am trying here is to make my list being displayed randomly, instead of showing the latest listing as the first one to be seen:

“Places” is what our main Custom Post Type (CPT) is called by default, you may have changed that. Its in the same place you would add custom fields, here is a doc link with an image of the screen you are looking for: https://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/article/77-changing-or-adding-new-sorting-options#how-to-nest-different-sort-options

    Ok, thanks for that link,

I read it carefully, but nowhere could the “random ordering” option be found.
Anyhow, I did get into CPT > Settings > Sorting
Then I chose the “Random” sorting widget. Ticked the “Default Sort” and “Is Active” buttons. And this is the only widget I have on my right hand column right now…
But still! no random sorting is appearing on my page :

    Is something missing still?

    Thanks

Random is the last option on the right column of this screenshot.

What you want on your website is to ONLY have that option on the right column of the sorting options.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks

    thanks for your reply,
indeed, I do have the “random” option as the only active field right now.
And it is working! Only I realized that it would display random listings every 24 hours.. Which is fine for me.

But I am using GD loop as a block on that url (see just above) and realized that GD loop is only displaying 10 out of my 100 listings.. How can I make GD loop to display all my listings please?

    OKAY… I got my answer:
Using a simple GD Listing instead of GD loop did the trick!
(I still have this “VIEW ALL” button hanging down at the bottom of the page, but it’s good enough for me!)
    THANKS again
