I want to start optimizing product categories instead of individual product pages. My understanding is that if this is to be effective, my category name should be my focus keyword. This means I need to change my category names to be more descriptive.

For example… instead of “Epson Ink”, I would want to specify the printer family like this: “Epson EP320 Color Ink” (my focus keyword). However, my menu uses this title in it and the larger category names throw off my styling and cause other issues down stream.

Is there a way to optimize for a keyphrase in the category name and display something different in a menu? For example, optimize for “Epson EP320 Color Ink” but show “EP320” in the menu for example?

Or… maybe I’m not thinking correctly about how to properly use and optimize categories. Can someone clarify this or point me in the right direction?
