Displaying posts with ACF field date after today

I’m coming into a project that I’m needing to redesign – ACF was set up long before I came into it. It is a site with auctions, and the posts have a custom field for the date of the auction. That being said, the custom field for the date was, for some reason, set as a text field (where they type date format Y-m-d) instead of a date picker.

What I’m trying to do is set up a post query with your plugin that calls upcoming auctions in ASC order of the Meta Value “date”, but only show those where that date is after today. I’ve tried some suggestions in other tickets here, but haven’t figured it out yet (I’m not well versed in ACF or PHP).
