• I’ve just installed this plugin and trying a few things out. It looks really promising for showing run routes. Most things seem straightforward and I’ve had some success showing a couple of test routes. The Display Photos shortcodes look interesting but I can’t get it to work.

    The example shortcode uses ‘import’ and I don’t know what, if anything, I’m meant to assign to that.[*osm_map lat="27.368" lon="88.223" zoom="11" width="450" height="450" control="mouseposition,scaleline" theme="dark" map_border="thin solid black" type="CycleMap" import="exif_m" marker_name="mic_photo_icon.png"]

Here’s some shortcode I have for a route. I’ve uploaded a couple of geotagged photos to the post that were taken along the route but I don’t know how to get the markers and photos to display. [*osm_map_v3 map_center="54.985,-1.593" zoom="13" width="100%" height="450" file_list="../../../../wp-content/uploads/2017/01/2017-01-24_08_13_08.gpx" type="landscape" file_color_list="purple" control="scaleline" map_border="thin solid green"]

Can someone give an example of how this works? Thanks,

    Dougie

    Hello Dougie,

the “exif-feature” is only supported with the old osm_map shortcode. Will be moved to osm_map_v3 in spring.
Make sure the exif data is still available after you uploaded it to your WordPress page. Do you have a test/sample page to look at?

    Thanks for the reply MiKa.

    I’ve tried osm_map_v3 and osm_map shortcodes at a test page: https://www.elvet-striders.uk/map-test-using-wp-osm-plugin/

I had reduced the image size using irfanview but checked that it still contained GPS info. I’ve tried reesaving the images from that test page and looking at them in OSM and it recognises their location.

I’ve shown the code I’ve tried on https://www.elvet-striders.uk/map-test-using-wp-osm-plugin/ – hope it helps.

    Thanks

    Hi MiKa,

I deleted that page as it was a test and I didn’t want it being found accidentally. I’ve created another test page on:
    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/23/wp-osm-photo-test/
where it doesn’t matter so much what I do.

I’ve tried a few more tests and shown the code I’ve used. I tried swapping themes too and also tried the responsive theme that you use.

Even using the identical example code as your page

    [*osm_map lat=”27.368″ lon=”88.223″ zoom=”11″ width=”450″ height=”450″ control=”mouseposition,scaleline” theme=”dark” map_border=”thin solid black” type=”CycleMap” import=”exif_m” marker_name=”mic_photo_icon.png”]

and I just get a blank map. Whenever I drop the _v3 from the short code the map is blank.

    regards

    Hello Dougie,

can you disable all tests except the test 7 just by adding a “*”.

    Ok that’s done.

    Hi Michael,

    I must be overlooking something.

    Test 4 in

    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/22/wordpress-openstreetmap-plugin-test/

displays a map but the same code as test 8 in

    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/23/wp-osm-photo-test

    does not.

I’ll look at the two posts again more closely later.

Ok, I was beginning to thoroughly confuse myself so I’ve started again with a single test per post. These can be found at:

    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/24/wp-osm-plugin-test-1/
    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/24/wp-osm-plugin-test-2/
    https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/24/wp-osm-plugin-test-3/

    Hopefully they’re self-explanatory.

I am unable to see the GPX trace in test 3 although I believe my code is correct. I guess that the issue with photos appearing is academic until I can get the trail to display.

Let me know if you’d like me to try anything.

    regards

    Hi Dougie,

in test 1 nor in test 2 there are any photos in the post. You have to add photos with exif info to show it on the map. In test 3 the file_list is only used if you generate the shortcode in the backend.

    Hi MiKa

Test 1 and 2 are doing what I would expect. I was trying to start with something simple. I notice in Test 2 I’ve used import="exif_m" which isn’t doing anything, but the map is displaying correctly centred around Newcastle upon Tyne.

I’ve added the geotagged photos to these posts now.

I don’t understand what you mean by “In test 3 the file_list is only used if you generate the shortcode in the backend.”. I was trying to get the GPX trace to display then worry about photos later. I’ve added the images to this post too now.

https://www.katsura.uk/2017/02/24/wp-osm-plugin-test-4/ is like test 3 expect using the _v3 shortcode. That displays the GPX trail.

I’ve sent you a message via https://hanblog.net/contactnewsletter/ about setting up a temp user.

    Thanks for your help,

    Dougie
