Displaying only a certin number of words per page.

  • I have an information site, so I tend to write longer posts. 600 words is probably the average length. I set my Settings > Reading to display only 1 post per page. How can I get my blog to show maybe the first 250 or so words to a post and then they can go to another page. (Also I would put 2 posts per page.)
    I would like to do it so it is friendly for the user but, it cannot make it look like I am splitting up the writing into several pages in an effort to expose them to more advertising.

    I use Adsense and Amazon ads, but some of these “read more” pages seem designed to up page views and to put more ads in front of people. I do not want that.
