• Well it might be a little more advanced then that. Here is my situation:

I want to display one post from each category on the front page… easy enough… but…

I want to know how many categories there are and to only pick from 3 of them… ALSO…

I only want to pick from the 3 which had the latest posts.

How would I go about doing this? I know how to query before the loop to get it to display one post from a certain category but how to i set it to display the latest post from a category?

To be more clear this is what im doing:

Im using categories like “Health, Entertainment, Technology” etc. and i want only one post from each of those on the front page, but say if i just posted a new post in “Health” i would want that to show up on the front page ABOVE the last post which may have been in “Entertainment”

Any help would be VERY VERY much appretiated!

Thanks for the reply…. Here’s the thing:

I just downloaded it and tested it out. It does what it says but it only shows the link to the category and the title of the post in its own format.

I want to display the whole post (well some of it with –more– added) under the category name. and then have the date under it and so on.

Basically i’m making a magazine type theme. If you search for the “Revolution news theme” you’ll see exactly what im saying. Its not a free theme so i can’t exactly take it apart and look at it to figure out how he did it.

And if it is possible to do it WITHTOUT plugins that would be all the better.

If not i’ll have to dive into this plugin that you gave me and see if i can draw anything from that.

To be honest, I don’t see anywhere in the Revolution News something like you want: that the categories “switch place” based on which has the latest post…
If you look at the article about customizing the Home page it shows clearly that it is hard coded which category is displayed in certain sections/boxes.

Ah i guess i should have seen that link in the demo then.

Well i didn’t want to hard code it but it would save me from a big headache although it wouldn’t be quite as good.

    Thanks for pointing that out.
