I’m rebuilding a portfolio site and have set up our portfolio like a blog. Each post contains one image, the name of the project as a title, and a 1-2 line description. I’d like to be able to display the most recent project(s) on my homepage – without the title or description – just the image(s).

Do I have to add the images to the RSS feed itself then pull them in using an RSS feed plugin? If so, do you recommend any plugins that do this? I tried WP RSS Image and it doesn’t work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I’ve done something similar on one of my sites. What I did is store the links to the images as custom fields within the individual posts. Then you can use a custom loop on the home page to retrieve the images and display them.

Thanks for the advice! I may give it a try next time around – this time I managed to find (what for me is) an easier way.

I downloaded “Image Feed Widget” then used the feed url of my site as its source. It pulls the first image from each of my most recent posts (and allows me to enter how many I would like displayed – which is perfect).

This means my client doesn’t have to worry about managing code or anything within the custom fields area.

Congratulations, sounds like you could not have found a better solution. ??

And thanks for sharing the details of what you did to solve it.
