I have a number of individual html pages (on my hard drive) which I would like to link to one of the pages in my wordpress site. While creating a wordpress page I have uploaded them and then created links to them from that page. However, when I click on the links, instead of being opened in the browser, the pages start downloading. Is there a way to open them, rather than download?

Can you provide an example? What is the file extension of those pages?

Do you have a custom .htaccess file in the directory they are stored?

It happens on my test site at: https://stencel.edublogs.org/quizy/ (click on the hyperlink which says “numbers”). Oh, and I’ve just noticed that the problem exists in Firefox. Internet Explorer just opens the page, as I want it.

No, I haven’t created a custom htaccess file.

edublogs.org arent supported here. they do their own thing there.

they also have their own support forums:

    https://www.edublogs.org/forums/

and they couldnt have mimic’d these forums any better. pfft. too bad they cant fix the standard “help” message when something goes wrong, to not direct people here.

Oh, they COULD, whoo, but why WOULD they?

Sorry, my fault, not theirs. Their help link DOES direct people to THEIR support forum. I just thought it’s better to ask at the very source of information, that is in the official WP forums.

Actually, this is the “official” WP forum – but edublogs and all those sites that offer separate blogs to many users, use a different software: WordPress MU (=multi user).
    https://mu.www.remarpro.com
While, originally, it is based on the WP script downoadable here… the individual bloggers in MU have different (read: less!) abilities in customizing their blogs, since many settings would apply to ALL the blogs in such a setting.
