Display top stories on another site

I am new at all of this but know HTML and a tiny bit of PHP. I have a web site with pictures and articles about some local lake activities. I also have two poeple that occasionally write articles for the site as well. I recently decided to use word press as the tool for these guys to write stories as it offers way more flexibility that I could provide through a custom php interface. On the home page of the web site I have a little thumbnail of the author and the date and title of the story, I would like to keep this format as they write stories using WP so I was thinking that all I had to do was to place some php code on the home page of my site that would display that authors most recent story, problem is, I am not sure what code I need use to display that information.

How wold I go about doing this? The site and Word press are hosted on the same server too.
