    Hi
Thanks for the plugin! I was looking for this for many years in the past, and only now I’ve discovered yours. Truly useful!

One thing I would want, to make it really useful: how can I show the subscribe form on the current category? while browsing a category to be able to show ‘subscribe to this category’, child or not.

And also, while viewing a post, to be able to subscribe (on the post page) to the current category of the post. Is this possible?

    thanks a lot

Not sure what you exactly want but in the STC User Manual you can find the user manual for STC. This is actually written for version 2.5.1 but you can look read it. Only the keyword search feature is new and the e-mail notification template is revised.

thanks but, what do you mean you don’t exactly know what I want?
I think I was pretty clear there.

simply put, how do I allow visitors to subscribe to the category of the current post they are viewing?

You know, in a post, there will be the category of the post listed…next to it a button or something to allow direct subscription to that category.

Having to go to a page to select categories is not the best way to do this. It is time-consuming and confusing if you have many categories.

    thanks again

    Oké, now I understand.
What could be done is a new shortcode to place a button anywhere you want[stc-subscribe-button].
You need to include this shortcode on the post / page you are viewing. This can only be done if the person is logged in to the site otherwise STC cannot make a subscription.

By the way showing the STC Widget in the sidebar is pretty close to what you want. The only thing missing is a checkbox to takeover the category / taxonomies from the current post. That checkbox is easy to create within the current concepts of STC

Let me know how think about it. Let us discuss this by email ([email protected])

    Kind Regards,

thanks for the explanations, really appreciate it. it would be great to be able to show the email field as well, for non logged in users.
the problem with the widget is mobile phones, which will see it very hard, and most of the users are on mobile nowadays, so it’s not really a solution. seeing it fast, right below the category would be great and very useful, and I’m sure not just for myself

    cheers

Please sent me an image where you would like it. Somehow I’m loosing you if you say right below the category!. You can send it to [email protected]

I did some thinking and decided that it is not a good thing to do. I believe that with the Plugin AWAC you can also create a widget area just after the post, before the comments area. In that area you can place the STC Widget. So the subscribe interface is also on mobiles accessibel.

    ok, thanks for the reply.
I’m sorry you don’t see the value of this.
Creating a widget area below the content is not an easy thing to do, for most bloggers, and most themes do not have such a widget area (mine included). So most of them will not even think modify their theme to do this.
Also, it is not the same, as the visitor would have to keep browsing below the content to see it – it would be much more visible, to be able to add the shortcode wherever you’d want, getting more people to subscribe.

plus, it is really not what I was asking for. I was asking for a way to subscribe DIRECTLY to the category of the current post, and your widget doesn’t do that. it is too much work to browse through all the categories and choose the one you want. If the website has many categories, like mine does, it feels almost too hard to even consider it.
A simple ‘subscribe to this category’ button would be just something easy to do, so a lot more people would subscribe.

    1. AWAC is an plugin that, exactly on the point you want, inserts an area to place the STC Widget. The plugin adds the widget area so you do not need to change any themes.
    2. I did say that within the concepts of STC something could be done. I also offered an discussion via e-mail. You keep on choosing this medium and frankly I do not think this discussion should be held here.
