Display recent posts

Is it possible to display recent posts of three blogs on a main page (non-blog one)? Yes I did a search! This one works only on index.php… I can’t use that solution because it requires (I think) wp-blog-header.php and will thus only access one blog (like wp_get_archives(‘postbypost’)).
I am doing it now as seen here. However, I have to use Magpie and the rss feeds. That isn’t a problem, but I kinda want a WP hack. Perhaps if one doesn’t exist, I can conjure something up.
