Display Product Categories on the base page

Hi, I am wondering how i can go about only displaying the product categories on the Shop page ( base page) as at the moment all products are shown.
This is not ideal as when the shop is finalized we will have in excess of 800 items.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
