Display posts from same and from specific category in single.php

  • Basically what I want to do (i’m doing) is the following:

    when viewing a single post on the sidebar I want to also display:

    1. The latest post from a specific category (i.e. headline)
    2. The latest 5 posts from the same category as the post being viewed.

    I’ve managed to achieve this, but if the post being viewed happens to also belong to the “headline” category and is the latest it also repeats itself in the sidebar. In that case I don;t want to display item 1 above.

    Make sense?

    If someone can provide a little guidance it would be appreciated.
